This is a very rare and
desirable 100% RUSTFREE 1978 F150 4x4. It has most every option
offered in 1978, Including the top-of-the-line "Lariat" trim package, and
the heavy duty "Trailering Special" towing package. The lariat package
gave you all the pretty stuff, and the Trailering special gave you the heavy
duty parts. I put my 24' enclosed car trailer behind this truck and it
barley squatted. The Trailering package included heavier springs, rear
anti-sway bar, much larger brakes, extra and larger fluid coolers, etc.
Other factory options include: 400 V8, C6 Automatic, A/C, PS, PDB, Tilt,
Cruise, Tool Box, Locking Hood, Tie Down Hooks, etc. I purchased this
truck in 2002 from the grandson of the original owner, with 96,000 original
miles. I sold it to a person in Minnesota. He put 11,000 miles
on it in 5 years, and spent about $2000.00 on it, including putting stock
manifolds back on and dual exhaust, some new suspension pieces, alternator,
fuel pump, tune up, new rear bumper, class III hitch, etc. The body is
100% rustfree, and features most of the original paint. Both upper bed
corners have damage. Per the grandson, his grandfather more than once
hit his boat or trailer into those corners. They have been repaired
once and need to be repaired again. Not a big deal but I wanted to
explain them. Both doors have minor damage from the large towing
mirrors. None of this damage is major, but I want to be clear.
Finally, the auxiliary fuel tank has a metal cover under it. That
metal cover is rusted. It must have gotten water trapped in it
and couldn't drain out. This cover is replicable. I don't
consider that the body, so the body is still 100% rustfree. The inside
of the bed is the straightest of any Ford I have owned. I also have
the original warranty card, and window sticker.
The original engine runs strong
with no smoke or noise. The automatic choke even works. The
transmission shifts perfect. The brakes are excellent. I drove
this truck back from Minnesota, at 70 MPH, and it drove great. It was
a pleasure to drive.
This is a very clean original
4x4. Even the interior is clean and bright due to not being smoked in.
If you are looking for a truck to restore, I recommend this one. It
has everything going for it. It is clean, well optioned, nice color
combination, nice documentation, and low miles.
